Tropical Storm Elsa Brings Torrential Rain as It Moves Up East Coast
The storm, which made landfall in Florida on Wednesday, dumped heavy rain across the Southeast. Warnings were issued as far north as Massachusetts.......Tropical Storm Elsa delivered heavy rain and high winds as it moved up the East Coast of the United States on Thursday, a day after the storm made landfall in Florida and unleashed a tornado in Georgia.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, Elsa was about 125 miles west southwest of Norfolk, Va., and moving northeast at 21 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Up to four inches of rain was expected in parts of North Carolina, with isolated totals of up to six inches, and tornadoes were possible in the eastern Carolinas and southeastern Virginia, the center said.
The storm, with maximum sustained winds of 50 m.p.h., was expected to move across the Carolinas before passing near the eastern Mid-Atlantic States by Thursday evening and into the Northeast on Friday.
Tropical storm warnings were in effect along parts of the East Coast as far north as Massachusetts. The National Weather Service said that parts of North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and Southern New England should brace for possible tornadoes between Thursday night and Friday morning..........................SOUTHERN NEW BRUNSWICK IMPACT.......T.S.
