THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY: ANOTHER DAY OF BLIZZARD-LIKE CONDITIONS AND NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TRAVEL

Widespread winter storm warnings continue to cover parts of the eastern Prairies and northwestern Ontario, as a powerful system brings significant snow and dangerous blizzard-like conditions.

Conditions quickly deteriorated across the region throughout the day on Wednesday, with widespread school and road closures persisting into Thursday as well.

It's been 25 years since all metro Winnipeg schools were forced closed due to weather. On Tuesday night, it was announced that all schools and administration offices across the city will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, and that staff are encouraged to just stay home. More than two dozen highways, or sections or highways, have been closed due to the poor driving conditions as well.
