  • Biden's funeral attendance comes the day after he went to the WHCA dinner and shared a night with celebrities and media celebrating freedom of press The president will deliver remarks at the Northrop Memorial Auditorium on the University of Minnesota's campus at the memorial service for Mondale, who served as President Jimmy Carter's No. 2 for his single term from 1977-1981.

Mondale died Monday at the age of 93.


Joining the president on his trip west is Democratic Minnesota Representatives Ilhan Omar and Dean Phillips, as well as Emeritus Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute Norm Ornstein and Canon Historian of the Washington National Cathedral Jon Meacham.

Biden also brought his Chief of Staff Ron Klain and his National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

The trip to Minnesota to honor his former colleague came the morning after the president attended and spoke at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner – as the dubbed 'nerd prom' made its reappearance in Washington, D.C. after two years of cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
