FOG BLOG U.S. NEWS LOG: RECENT HISTORIC BLIZZARD IN NORTH DAKOTA CAUSES HAVOC WITH EVERYDAY LIFE:

Blizzard Daphne sweeps into region, bringing blowing snow and travel advisories...The National Weather Service on Tuesday issued a blizzard warning for all of eastern North Dakota and western Minnesota counties that border North Dakota. Also included in the warning is Roseau County, in northwest Minnesota.

Grand Forks schools are closed. This includes Head Start, ECSE and all after-school activities.

East Grand Forks schools also are closed Tuesday.

UND also is closed and will reopen at 10 p.m. Tuesday. The UND Career Expo has been moved to Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Numerous schools in the region are altering their schedule. No travel is advised throughout eastern North Dakota, as well as in Polk County, Minnesota.

The Herald named the storm Blizzard Daphne, in honor of Daphne Enger, a 6-year-old from Grand Forks. In December, the Herald profiled Enger, who suffers from the brain disease Batten Disease-CLN2. Her parents, Brice and Lindsey, hope to raise awareness about the disease and asked readers to sign a petition to the FDA urging clinical trials and gene therapy.
