FOG BLOG U.S. LOG: DONALD TRUMP IN COURT IN WASHINGTON, PLEADING NOT GUILTY ON ELECTION INTERFERENCE

Trump pleads not guilty on 2020 election interference charges

  • Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty in a Washington, DC, federal courthouse to four criminal charges related to special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

  • Trump was placed under arrest and arraigned for the third time in four months. He was released pending trial and the next hearing is set for August 28.

  • Federal prosecutors allege that Trump "was determined to remain in power" after losing the election and that he and six unindicted co-conspirators orchestrated a plot to reverse the results leading up to the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.

  • Trump — who is the 2024 GOP frontrunner and has already been charged in Smith’s separate probe on classified documents — has denied any wrongdoing, while also slamming the case as politically motivated.
