FOG BLOG SAINT JOHN NEWS LOG: FIRE CONSUMES APT. COMPLEX UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN THE NORTH END:

Police and fire investigators looking into Saint John apartment fire.......Building under construction in Crescent Valley neighborhood is heavily damaged........Police and fire investigators are looking into a fire that heavily damaged a still-under-construction apartment building in the Crescent Valley neighbourhood of Saint John's north end.

The Saint John Fire Department arrived at the scene on Taylor Avenue at around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, but by 10 a.m., smoke again emerged from the heavily damaged end of the building, closest to Sandy Point Road. Firefighters turned the water back on and had the flareup quickly under control.

No one was injured.

12 units in building

Investigators remained on the scene for much of the day.

Staff Sgt. Sean Rocca, a police department spokesperson, said it was too early in the investigation to say whether the fire was suspicious.

The Saint John Fire Department did not responded to a request for information.

The Moncton-based developer, Viva Development, declined to be interviewed Wednesday afternoon. In an email, Nick Pinto said the fire was "disheartening for the owners and the workers involved." He said workers had just finished installing drywall in the 12-unit building.
