FOG BLOG SAINT JOHN LOG: MOMENTS AGO 2 LONG TIME BUS ROUTES ON WEST SIDE CAME TO AN END!
The last run of the 13 Milford/ Greendale & 14 Churchill Heights was done by this bus no 43660 as the 2 bus routes came to an end moments ago. Pictured here taken by me on Jan 12th on a nice sunny day is Saint John Transit bus no. 43763 on 13 Milford / Greendale & 14 Churchill Heights routes. Both routes date back 80 years when many transportation companies in North American moved away from traction vehicles and started using ones of gasoline and diesel! Today's demand has shifted as more people have cars and take cabs and these 40 ft buses remain empty a lot of the time. Still sad to see these routes go! Starting Monday this whole West area serviced by these routes go to 20 ft electric buses which when called will pick you up at designated bus stops! It's called On Demand Flex Service. The fare will be the same $2.75 like the routed buses but will necessitate you calling or accessing an app to have the bus come to a designated bus stop near you. You will have to also allow 1/2 hour for pick up. I'm sure all details will be on the SJT website. This is a test area to see how the program goes, if successful they will expand the Flex into the Millidgeville area next! Story by Mike Beckwith
