FOG BLOG RIDICULOG: LIP SERVICE FROM HIGGS REGARDING RENT CONTROL REFORMS??
I WONDER, JUST WONDER IF THE DOG AND PONY SHOW THAT PREMIER HIGGS PUT ON REGARDING RENT CONTROLS INCLUDING SO CALLED RENOVICTIONS, WHERE LANDLORDS GIVE 2 MONTHS NOTICE FOR ALL TENANTS TO MOVE OUT WHILE THEY DO EXTENSIVE RENOVATIONS. ALSO JACKING THE RENT UP 100 OR 200%, WAS ALL LIP SERVICE . A HOUSE NEAR US HAD MINOR PAINTING DONE AND SOME MINOR REPAIRS BUT IN FEB. ALL HAD TO BE OUT FOR EXTENSIVE RENOS!...WHEN THE REPORT CAME IN THAT TOOK 3 MONTHS TO COMPILE , HIGGS TOOK TO THE WAVES AND TOLD THE PUBLIC HE WAS APPAULED THAT LANDLORDS CAN RAISE THE RENT EVERY QUARTER , I REALLY DON'T THINK THEY DO IT QUARTERLY , BUT WAS THIS FOR SHOW AND JUST LIP SERVICE. BACK IN THE FALL BEFORE THE REPORT , BLAINE HIGGS TOLD THE PUBLIC THAT HE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE EFFECT IT WOULD HAVE IF OVERHAUL OF THE LANDLORD AND TENNANCY ACT WAS DONE TOO QUICKLY. NOVA SCOTIA THOUGH JUMPED INTO ACTION. THEY PUT A HALT ON RENOVICTIONS AND A CAP ON RENT INCREASES. THERE ARE PEOPLE DURING THIS PANDEMIC THAT HAD TO MOVE BECAUSE THEIR RENT WENT FROM SAY $700 TO $1100 IN THE NEW YEAR.. I REALIZE THAT THE OWNERS RUN A BUSINESS AND THEY HAVE TO HAVE SOME PROTECTION BUT SO DO THE PEOPLE AND THE PUBLIC OF NEW BRUNSWICK THAT ELECTED OUR PREMIER AND THAT THEY ARE HAVING A HARD TIME MAKING ENDS MEET! SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE TO REACH AN EQUITABLE RESOLUTION FOR BOTH PARTIES , SOMETHING THAT BOTH CAN LIVE WITH AND NOT LIP SERVICE!!
