FOG BLOG RIDICULOG: BLAINE HIGGS' 'WAIT & SEE' RE: END OF RENT CAP SPARKS 60- 90% RENT HIKES IN NB!
IN AN END OF THE YEAR INTERVIEW, PREMIER BLAINE HIGGS MENTIONED THAT HE WOULD 'WAIT AND SEE' WHAT HAPPENS WHEN JAN. 1ST THE RENT CAP / FREEZE WOULD END AND LANDLORDS COULD SET THEIR OWN RENT INCREASES ONCE AGAIN. RIGHT AWAY THERE WERE NEWS REPORTS WHERE RENTERS WERE GIVEN NOTICES THAT THEIR RENT WOULD INCREASE 60 - 90 % AND OTHER EXAMPLES ARE COMING OUT OF THE WOOD WORK. NOW IN THE EXAMPLE OF THE 90% INCREASE THERE WAS A COMPROMISE AND THE INCREASE WILL STILL BE 55% WHICH WILL INCREASE THE TENANTS RENT BY $400. THIS FALL AND THE PERSON RENTING SAYS IT WILL BE TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THEM. BLAINE HIGGS' SUGGESTION IS TO WORK OUT A COMPROMISE WITH THE TENANCY TRIBUNAL. IN THE ABOVE MENTIONED CASE, THE RENT INCREASE IS STILL STEEP. BLAINE HIGGS SHOULD BE WORKING OUT SOMETHING THAT WILL SATISFY APT OWNERS AND WILL ALSO MAKE IT A REASONABLE RENT INCREASE FOR TENANTS. WHAT WILL IT TAKE BEFORE THINGS GET MORE OUT OF CONTROL. NB GOVERNMENT , THE TIME IS NOW TO ACT AND MAKE LIFE EASIER FOR RENTERS WHO ARE ALSO YOUR ELECTORS!
