1 dead, 1 injured in Prince Rupert shooting B.C. premier calls 'incredibly troubling' RCMP have cordoned off a building that includes government offices RCMP say one person is dead and another critically injured in a shooting at an office mall in downtown Prince Rupert, B.C., around 8:30 Monday morning.

Few details are being released, but in a written statement, RCMP Cpl Madonna Saunderson said police "know the traumatic impact this incident will have on many people."

Prince Rupert RCMP have cordoned off the block around Ocean Centre Mall, a multi-use shopping complex and workspace downtown that includes government offices, a restaurant, and an alternative school.

Prince Rupert Mayor Herb Pond called it "truly tragic." He said his nearby office was locked down for about 90 minutes.

"A lot of our staff knew ... some of the individuals involved," he said.

A dozen people were gathered outside the building on Monday morning. One woman was seen weeping.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Dave Uppal says supports are in place to help those who need it.
