Woman’s Body Recovered From Mudslide in British Columbia as Evacuations Continue...It came down faster than the speed of sound,” said a woman who survived the mudslide. Heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers have inundated cities in the Canadian province......Rescuers used boats on Wednesday to reach people stranded in homes surrounded by floodwaters in parts of British Columbia, where torrential rains have swamped rivers and farmland and triggered mudslides that cut off major highways. The authorities have said it would take weeks for the province to recover from a storm that left hundreds of people stranded on highways and in their communities. The body of a woman was recovered from a mudslide on Highway 99 near Lillooet, British Columbia, about 150 miles northeast of Vancouver, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a statement on Tuesday. In Abbotsford, a city of about 162,000 people near the border between Canada and the United States, the police chief, Mike Serr, said on Wednesday that at least 184 people had been evacuated from about 40 properties overnight, and that boats would be deployed to pick up another 300 residents.

“We are going to be working through that all morning,” he said at a news conference.
