Fire crews responded to "multiple structure fires" at a subdivision under construction shortly before noon, Deputy Fire Chief Drew Boys said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown but Boys said it was "wind-driven fire," making it "difficult to contain."

Boys said Oakville Fire had 11 units responding to the blaze.

"Our crews did an aggressive attack ... and managed to stop it," he said. Gregory Miller was among the construction workers at the site when the fire broke out.

"We [had] to evacuate as fast as possible," Miller told reporters near the scene.

"All of our tools ... everything get burned ... we lost everything. It's really shocking because no one was there doing any fireworks."

Earlier, Fire Chief Paul Boissonneault said the structures were at various stages of construction.

The Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified, he said.
