NORAD confirms 'high-altitude airborne object’ over northern Canada

NORAD isn’t saying much more about the object, including when it was first spotted or what it is. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has ordered the takedown of “a high-altitude airborne object” that NORAD detected over Northern Canada. The North American Aerospace Defence Command said Saturday it had positively identified the object that is currently flying at high altitude over northern Canada. “While we cannot discuss specifics related to these activities at this time, please note that NORAD conducts sustained, dispersed operations in the defence of North America through one or all three NORAD regions,” spokesperson Maj. Olivier Gallant said in an email statement.

NORAD isn’t saying much more about the object, including when it was first spotted or what it is.

But NORAD spokesman Maj. Gallant says Canadian and American military aircraft have been deployed in response to its presence.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed in a Tweet Saturday afternoon he ordered a takedown of the object, which was hovering over the Yukon.

Both Canadian and U.S. military forces were scrambled in response, but a U.S. fighter jet was successful at firing at the object.
