UPDATE: Cape Breton police find vehicle they were looking for in relation to Sydney Mines shooting

Incident happened early Saturday morning SYDNEY, N.S. - Cape Breton Regional Police have located the 2015 Hyundai Elantra they were looking for in relation to a shooting incident in Sydney Mines early Saturday morning.

The people believed to be in the vehicle were not in it when police found it. The investigation is ongoing and police said there will be an update as information becomes available.

Police also belive the shooting incident, which happened inside a residence on Barrington Street in Sydney Mines, to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

No injuries were sustained due to the shooting, said police in a release to media.

An emergency alert was sent at 11 a.m. Saturday morning notifying the public that police were looking for the vehicle and that there were two or three males inside. It also said it was believed they had a firearm.


A second emergency alert issued around 3:15 p.m. Saturday stated the vehicle was found and that the investigation is ongoing. There is no mention of the males who were believed to be in the vehicle who were thought to have a firearm with them.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the non-emergency line at 902-563-5151.
