BONNIE POINTER OF THE POINTER SISTERS DIES OF CARDIAC ARREST AT 69!......Bonnie Pointer, a founding member of the Pointer Sisters, who was essential to the group’s early success but left in 1977 before most of its biggest hits, died June 8 in Los Angeles. She was 69.The cause was cardiac arrest, publicist Roger Neal said.The four Pointer sisters — Ruth, Anita, Bonnie and June — grew up singing in church in Oakland, Calif., where their father was a minister. It was Bonnie, shortly after graduating high school, who first wanted to move out of the church and into clubs to pursue a professional singing career.“She had always told me, ‘Mother, I want something for myself, I want to be someone in this world,’ ” her mother, Sarah Pointer, told Ebony magazine in 1973.
