EXPLOSION AT THE SAINT JOHN IRVING OIL REFINERY ROCKS EAST SAINT JOHN TODAY!.....Irving Oil has confirmed it is investigating a “major incident” at their refinery in Saint John, N.B.Witnesses posted photos and videos of thick black smoke and flames coming from the industrial facility Monday morning.Emergency measures officials say there were believed to be only “a couple” minor injuries from the explosion.Geoffrey Downey of the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization said none of the injuries were believed to be serious “at this point.”The company later said that “we now understand that all employees and contractors working on site have been safely accounted for. Several contractors are being treated for non-life threatening injuries in relation to this incident.”Gerry Graves was sitting on the edge of his bed this morning when his windows started to rattle. He thought maybe there had been a tractor-trailer accident.He couldn’t see anything out the window of the two-storey building he is in, but noticed an unusual amount of traffic on the street below. He headed outside and walked a half block before the plume of black smoke came into view. He knew instantly that it was coming from the refinery.Mr. Graves, who is a mason, said he works there regularly.
