LATELY IN THE NEWS ITS ALL ABOUT OUTRAGEOUS POWER BILLS IN NEW BRUNSWICK. THIS ISN'T THE KICKER EITHER, IN A RECENT REPORT ABOUT COMPLAINTS OF HIGH NB POWER BILLS .....THE CROWN COMPANY IS ASKING THE EUB, ENERGY AND UTILITIES BOARD FOR A HIKE IN RATES! I understand that a hike is routine and is asked for because of higher operating costs, overhead etc.! Consumers on the other hand , I think aren't worried about operating cost but rather how they can afford to pay these bills. I know there is a no disconnect during winter months but what is left over has to be paid up or disconnection would begin in the spring. It is hard for a lot of people because of trying to make ends meet. Some of these bills are in excess of $ 500. and some are as high as $ 700. Seniors especially can't afford these high bills and if the EUB gives the green light, next winter will see even higher electric bills!! I understand that a company has to keep up with the times and charge more for the service and probably makes whatever profit they do. People with low incomes though need a better break in order to make ends meet with these high bills and a $100. rebate at the end of the year won't cut it!! I think that if you are in a certain income bracket and depending on the amount of bills you have to pay , there should be an incentive in place to receive up to $1000. rebate at the end of the year and this would be the maximum, the better off you are the lower this would be. This is just an example but if things keep on going like they are, this will be popped back on the .....Ridiculog for another go-round!!
