THE STORY THIS WEEK LANDS US IN THE FOG BLOG'S BACK YARD.....SAINT JOHN! The Empty Stocking Fund has been around for 105 years starting in 1912. It's mission statement is to help the less fortunate in the Saint John area! Saint John , give yourself a round of applause! You have helped to raise over $173,000. for the Empty Stocking Fund and to help people in need in Saint John! This is the longest running daily paper funded charity in Canada! Good going Empty Stocking Fund! The other big fund raiser at Christmas is the Harbour Lights campaign!.......This year marks the 21st anniversary of the Harbour Lights campaign, raising money to help feed families in our communities. Over the past two decades, Harbour Lights has raised over $2.7 million dollars. Port Saint John installs a giant Christmas tree on the Saint John harbourfront, covered with hundreds of light bulbs. With every $2 donation, another light is lit, until the entire tree is covered with twinkling lights. Once the financial goal is reached, the star at the top of the tree is lit.
