WOMAN AT A SAULT STE. MARIE DOWNTOWN WALMART IS KILLED BY DRIVER CRASHING INTO THE STATION MALL AT WALMART!....A Sault Ste. Marie woman is dead after she was struck by a car at Station Mall's parking lot early Saturday afternoon. The vehicle, eastbound at the west end of the mall, hit the northwest entrance to Walmart. The car continued along the walkway at the mall's north side and struck a woman, 58.Somehow, just what happened is still under investigation, she ended up under a car near Algoma Central Railway's station. It's not known if she was dragged, thrown or something else happened to cause her to move from the walkway, said Const. Sonny Spina of Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.“We just don't know yet,” he said. “There's any number of things that could have happened, but we just know where she ended up.”Firefighters used air bags to lift the vehicle so the woman could be freed. The pedestrian was taken to Sault Area Hospital where she died a short time later. Her name was not released by police.A female driver, and a passenger, remained at the scene. It's not known yet if alcohol, drugs or a mechanical failure are factors in the crash.“(It's) still way too early to know exactly what caused it,” said Spina. Two parked vehicles were also struck. Damage was minor. The traffic fatality comes a day after Kenneth Aubin, 62, of the Sault, died when his all-terrain vehicle rolled over on McNie Road in McNie Township.
