Fog Blog Ridiculog:
This week's Ridiculog is all about comforting another when tragedy strikes. It is so nice when family and friends console you but there are exceptions to that. When it comes to a tragic situation like a fire or losing a loved one , most people will hug you and be there for you and feel real sorrow for you. There are some though, friends or family that use trite or disingenuous expressions that really bother me! Some, I don't like are....'Well, we're all gonna end up there' , 'He or she is better off' 'When push comes to shove', ' We are all in the same boat', Things will look up' These platitudes or trite one liners may be true for the situation but do little to comfort people in their time of sorrow! When my father died at the Regional Hospital here in Saint John we had to go back to the Carleton Kirk nursing home to deal with cleaning out his locker! We decided to donate the clothes he had, new ones and ones that were clean, the nursing staff said in a rude angry tone...." They need to be cut up the back!' We knew that but this was a few days after his death and a kind word should have been used! One kind word goes further that a whole sentence of nothing! Maybe people should adjust their tone , kinder is better, or they may end up on the next Ridiculog!
